THE COMPELLING PASSION FOR DISCIPLESHIP. By Rev John Sigudla

3“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered.

“He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him. 4All of us

must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, because there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end.

Indeed each and every Christian has been called by God to fulfil certain ministry in the Kingdom of God. No one is a freelancer but we all called to fulfill an assignment in this very same world before we leave this world.

  1. Your assignment is unique
  • God cannot give you something which is too difficult for you to fulfil. When the talents were distributed, the three recipients were given according to their abilities, one was given 5, and the other was given 3 while the last was given only one talent.
  • The first two used their God given abilities to increase what they were “given”. They never gave themselves, but they were given. When you are given, you become the custodian of what has been given to you. That which has been given to you will not be a burden since it was dispatched with the full consideration of your abilities, thus it is your exact weight for what you can handle.
  • The last person, played and never increased his share and had excuses which were not acceptable to God. His end was horrible. Hope this is not what is going to happen to some of us given the opportunity to serve our God wherever you are.
  1. What is needed in serving the Master?

4All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, because there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end.

  • Verse number 4 reflect what has been given to us. “All of us must quickly carry out”
  • Not some of us, but all of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned to us by God.
  • I see no excuse at all, since we are all assigned, thus the secret is to know your assignment. We are delayed and destroyed by lack of knowing what our assignments are.
  1. The danger surrounding us.
  • According to the scripture, verse 4, there is little time left.
  • Please don’t allow other people further to delay you in your assignment.
  • God is not going to excuse you and not punish you since people will be a reason for you having failed to fulfil your assignment.
  • When the night fall and the work will cease or come to an end and many of us will be crying to God asking for an extension of our assignment submission and it will be too late.

That is the reason why I am all out with my God given assignment of discipleship in my old age. I fully believe and I am convinced that you too do have a special and unique assignment given to you by God at this point and time. May we be faithful in pleasing God rather than pleasing our delayers!!!!

You need that passion to fulfil that which is burning you within your soul.

DISCIPLESHIP IS ALL ABOUT DYING TO SELF.

By Pastor John Sigudla

25Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who despise their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26All those who want to be my disciples must come and follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And if they follow me, the Father will honor them. John 12:25-26

  • We have been called to be the disciples of Jesus Christ all of us. Discipleship is not for certain individuals.
  • Discipleship is not for the matured Christians only.
  • Discipleship is for all new and old believers to grow in the knowledge of Christ.
  • Discipleship is a command from Jesus our Master and it is not a church program.
  • Discipleship is a lifestyle of each and every Christian, young and old rich and average, black and white, Jews and Gentiles.
  1. DISCIPLESHIP HAS TO DO WITH DYING FROM ONESELF. VERSE 25

Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Discipleship has to do with pleasing God and not man. When you are a disciple of Christ, you become a dead man’s pleaser, but you then become God’s pleaser and that is not what the world want.

If we are Jesus’ disciples we simply despise our lives of pleasing people by simply telling others about Christ and mature them to the knowledge of Christ, then they become, spiritually matured Christ followers and they in turn tell others about Christ. 2 Timothy 2:2. The rewards of doing such according to the scriptures is eternal life that is set aside for all who obeys the Great Commission together with those that would have responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Verse 25.

  1. DISCIPLESHIP IS INTENTIONAL AND NOT OBVIOUS. Verse 26

26All those who want to be my disciples must come and follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And if they follow me, the Father will honor them.

  • Those who want to be Christ disciples must make a discussion intentionally to follow Christ daily and not sometimes when it is pleasing to them according to John 12:26.
  • Those who are Christ disciples, will be where Christ is always, telling people about the saving knowledge found in Christ the anointed one of God.
  • If we follow Christ that is discipleship, walking in his footsteps, the Bible says “the Father will honor them” Verse 26
  • Many believed in Christ, but they never confessed him publicly since they wanted to be honored by men rather than honored by God. John 12:42 -43.
  • These Pharisees they didn’t confess Christ fearing that they will be kicked out of their synagogue. Thus church programs and pleasing man was of the uttermost importance to the Pharisees. That is not discipleship.
  • Remember the Priest and the Levite who passed the beaten man on the road to Jericho!!!. They had no interest to this Jew was dying on the ground since they had something serious according to their religion to fulfil rather than helping the dying stranger on the road to Jericho.
  1. APPLICATION IN OUR LIVES.
  • How many are on the dying mode and we pass them on the daily basis since they are not members of our church? Gone are those days that we only help people who are next to us. Let us open our net and allow all people to come in and enjoy the love of God through our selfless service of the Master carried in our hearts. Then we shall be called the disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • The real honor comes from the Father our God when we follow Christ. if we become what Christ says we must be. Follow in his steps and winning souls for the kingdom.
  • Having no pleasure for this present world.
  • Taking whatever money, car, home of mine be used for the sake of spreading the gospel of peace to the whole world.
  • We have no more time, people are dying of drugs, crime is escalating because of poverty, education is no longer regarded as discipline to the educated, and crime is committed by even those in high places of job and status. The respect of many influential figures is no longer there. Our country need more than we use to pray and we need to double our efforts in prayer and seek God’s face like never before.
  • GOD WILL HONOR THOSE WHO TAKES HIS WORD SERIOUS AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS. VERSE 26 “and if they follow me, My Father will honor them”

Who is honoring you? Blessed are those that are honored by the Father. Verse 26

God be with you.

THE MOST DANGEROUS WAR.

god

2 Samuel chapter 2

  1. Introduction

As I was reading in my devotion this chapter of second Samuel after the death of Saul, I was greatly disturbed by the shift of concentration from the main enemy of the Israelites to themselves as they fought each other because of the throne. That troubled me hence this devotion to you. Read the entire 2 Samuel Chapter 2 in order to understand my serious concern in this regard.

The most dangerous war is when a family fights each other just like in the case of the death of Saul the first King of Israel. David was not readily accepted as the next king of Israel. Joab the senior war veteran had in mind to have Saul’s son to the throne knowing that he will still be in charge and control the boy. Thus he stood on the side of Saul though dead and that caused lot of uneasiness in the entire nation of Israel. it was no longer Israel fighting the enemies but a group of Saul followers, “disciples” and the followers of David who were all Israelites fighting each other for the sake of the empty throne which God has already filled with David. Since the anointing was done privately, that was not easily swallowed hence the faction amongst the same nation of Israel.

Self-appointment is very dangerous since it stops or delay the move of God and progress of a nation as it was the case with Israel.

What is the danger of this scenario?

  • Lack of trust to one another.
  • Delay of progress no matter how much strategies had been made.
  • Suspicious movements always.
  • No openness called transparency whatsoever.
  • Gossiping of all kinds.
  • Division of a nation
  • Lack of genuine prayers.
  • Shattered dreams and loss of many lives.
  • War beyond control.
  • Blaming each other will be the order of the day.
  • Dysfunctionality that will overshadow the lives of the nation.
  • System shut down.
  1. May we avoid such situation in our local churches!
  • Let there be the fear of the Lord always in the house of the Lord.
  • Allow the Spirit of God to move through everyone as assigned.
  • Respect the present God elected leadership.
  • Prayer should be the highest task of engagement in the church.
  • Love should take over the whole situation and hatred will automatically disappear.
  1. What will the outcome be if we observe the above?
  • God’s work and move will then prevail in the midst of all believers.
  • We will enjoy the presence of God in our midst.
  • Miracles of healing and joy will flood the lives of many.
  • Unity of believers or disciples will be the order of the day.
  • We will be able as a church to carry out the Great Commission happily.
  • God will be glorified in our lives.
  • Many souls will be won for Christ.
  • And finally, Jesus second coming will take place.

May God help us to do what he has called us to do and nothing else of our own selfish ambition that is taking us nowhere.

May his love and his presence be in our midst to guide us to love one another genuinely!!!

Warmest regards
