It is finished

Today this Sunday 10th March we come to the greatest word ever spoken and that word is finished. In John 19:30 we read these words from the mouth of Jesus. Actually these are three words in English but only one word in Greek or Aramaic.

John 19:30 ”When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, ‘It is finished:’ and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”

Actually it says he cried with a loud voice ”it is finished

.” It is one word in the Greek, ”tatelista”, finished or accomplished. Just one word, accomplished. And He bowed His head and gave up the ghost. Paul in writing of salvation in Romans 11:6 says this, ”and if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more #grace: otherwise work is no more work.”

Now I want to call this message ”The Greatest Word Ever Spoken.” And I want to say that this is the greatest word ever spoken because it was spoken by the greatest person who ever lived, the Lord Jesus Christ. Only the Lord Jesus Christ could have spoken this word because the word that He spoke was finished or accomplished. Only Jesus Christ could say accomplished. He is the only person who lived who accomplished fully the thing that God placed Him in this world to do. Abraham as great as he was could not say he fully finished God’s work. David as great as he was could not say he fully finished God’s work. Paul as great as he was could not say he fully finished God’s work. All of these great bible characters truly loved the Lord and truly did great things but only Jesus Christ the Son of God could say finished. This is the word spoken by the greatest person who ever lived, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Son of Man had come to seek and to save that which is lost
