Mark 5:19, “Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”

Story of great and dear friends of mine who are ministers of the Gospel. The two ministers I am speaking of are brothers.  The older brother is deceased, and the remaining brother is advanced in years.  The younger brother told me that when he started his preaching ministry, he was scheduled in a church for his first revival.  His older brother had been a very successful evangelist for years and concerted to help his brother prepare his sermons for a week of revival services.  The younger brother prayed, studied, and was well prepared for each service.  He had one week of messages.  At the end of the week of revival, the Pastor asked the young preacher to continue for the second week of services.  Not having more sermons to preach, he called his brother for advice.  The advice given to him was “just get up and brag on Jesus.”  They had another blessed week of church services.

Many people desire to be an effective witness for Christ but are either intimidated or are bashful.  Jesus gave everyone the commission to be a witness, not just by showing a good testimony but also by speaking of the Lord to others.  It’s not always as complicated as we make it; it is just to brag on Jesus to everyone.

In our scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Jesus said, “…go home, and tell…” We may say I do not know what to say when I witness for Christ.  The verse continues, “…tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath compassion on thee.”  That is a great witness and testimony, and actually, all anyone is doing is “bragging on Jesus.”

Tell your friends, your mothers, your fathers, your brother and sisters, husbands and wives, and children what God has done for you.  Tell of being cleansed by the Blood of Jesus from sin, maybe even from an evil possession.  Brag on Jesus for His manifold blessings in health and soundness of mind and financial supply.  Tell how He has given you love, joy and peace.  Brag on the finished work of Christ, who has prepared for you a place in Heaven with promise of forever being in His Holy and Righteous presence.  Not only is He holy, but John said in his first epistle, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2)

Of course, all of our boasting and bragging is not about ourselves, but about the transformation change in us by the love of God.  Brag on Jesus to everyone you know and meet, telling about what He has done for you.
