Message From CMA Chairperson
On behalf of the CMA Board, I would like to thank the thousands of loyal Comrades Marathon runners, supporters and friends of Comrades who will be participating in tomorrow’s Comrades Centenary Hope Challenge.

Your participation will not only contribute towards keeping the spirit of the Comrades Marathon alive but will also greatly assist in enabling us as organisers towards sustaining this amazing event towards the next 100 years.  

 An extra special call-out to those of you who have chosen to support one of our 6 Comrades Marathon Official Charities, thus adding an extra dimension of purpose to your run and contributing much-needed HOPE to others.

I wish everyone a wonderful, happy, and trouble-free day tomorrow, whatever your distance and wherever you are in South Africa or the world. Have a great day COMRADES!

To the 2021 Comrades Centenary Hope Challenge participants I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, thank you for entering and partaking in our event as we celebrate 100 years of Comrades Marathon’s existence. Your thoughtfulness is a gift we will always treasure.

Wishing you all the best tomorrow and please stay safe and protected, please observe the necessary Covid protocol. Remember it is in your hands to combat the spread of the virus.

Important: Bib transfers, entry deferrals and/or change of distances will NOT be allowed for the virtual challenge. Please familiarise yourself with the race rules found here

Race Packs
Race packs  have NOT been dispatched as yet. If you chose to collect your race pack at a Mr Price Sport store, you will receive a collection notification by email when your race pack has arrived at the store which you selected on your entry. Please do not go to the store to collect your products before you receive your collection email.

Submitting your Results
There are 3 ways to submit your time.

Option 1 – using the SportSplits Tracker app
Use this option if you want to use the SportSplits Tracker app and your phone while you run. 
Step 1: Download the Tracker App
Step 2: Claim your profile
Step 3: Make sure your power saving settings are set correctly
Step 3: On Challenge day hit the start button and the app takes care of the rest

Option 2 – Using a smartwatch or fitness tracker
Step 1: Download the SportSplits Tracker App
Step 2: Claim your profile
Step 3: After your run, upload your run to Strava
Step 4: Open the SportSplits Tracker app.
Step 5: Tap on the profile icon in the top right hand corner.
Step 6: Tap the Import from Strava button and follow the prompts.
The app will then import your route and splits and post your result automatically.

Option 3 – Manual upload
Step 1: Go to  www.comrades.com
Step 2: Click on the Submit Your Time icon
Step 3: Search for your name
Step 4: Click on the Submit Time link next to your name and manually upload your challenge time

Step 2 – Claim Your Profile

  Once you have the app installed, simply click the Claim Your Profile button below and the app will setup itself up automatically and get ready for you to start your race   Claim Your Profile                                           
Step 3 – Set your phone’s power settings
                                                                              IPHONE – WHAT SETTINGS DO I NEED?
Your phone’s location services must be enabled, follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings > Privacy >  Location Services.
2. Make sure that  Location Services is on.
3. Scroll down to find the app: SportSplits Tracker 
4. Tap the app and select an option:   (example here)
Choose “While Using the App”
Enable “Motion & Fitness”
Enable “Precise location” (iOS 14+)  

To improve accuracy: 
a) Leave WIFI and Bluetooth ON during your activity.
b) Make sure your phone is not running in “Low Power Mode” (you’ll see a yellow battery light when this is happening). You can specifically disable it Settings->Battery:  (example here)  
c)  Make sure your permissions are setup as follows. Go to Settings, scroll down to the app: SportSplits Tracker and compare the settings to this screenshot. Specifically, make sure to enable Location (While Using) and Motion and Fitness.  (example here)  

For iOS 14+, “Precise location” must be enabled too.

ANDROID – WHAT SETTINGS DO I NEED?
When Battery Optimization is enabled, Android may restrict Location services and your GPS tracking information may be lost.   For tracking to work properly on Android, you should disable any battery optimization settings including Power Saving Mode, Battery Management, Optimization or any third-party battery saver apps.  

First, please check that your location settings are set to High accuracy in  Settings > Connections > Location > Locating method > High accuracy.
Then, please follow these tips for your specific device:

Samsung
: Settings > Apps > choose the menu in the upper right-hand  > Special access > Optimize battery usage > All apps > Toggle OFF for SportSplits Tracker.
LG: Settings > Battery & power saving > Battery usage > Ignore optimizations > turn ON for SportSplits Tracker.
Motorola: Settings > Battery > choose the menu in the upper right > Battery optimization > Not optimized > All Apps >SportSplits Tracker > Don’t Optimize.
HTC: Settings > Power > Battery optimization > Not optimized > All apps > SportSplits Tracker > Don’t optimize > Done.
Sony: Settings > Battery > choose the menu in the upper right > Battery optimization > Apps > SportSplits Tracker.
Huawei:   (See this animation)
Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei Mate 10 
Phone settings > Battery > App launch and then set SportSplits Tracker app to “Manage manually” and make sure everything is turned on.
Turn Energy Settings to Normal and add SportSplits Tracker to “Protected Apps.”
Settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimizations > Allowed > All apps > SportSplits Tracker > Allow.
Huawei P9 Plus:
Phone settings > Apps > Settings > Special access > Ignore battery optimization > select allow for SportSplits Tracker
Xiaomi (MIUI OS):
Settings > Additional Settings > Battery & performance > Manage apps battery usage > apps > SportSplits Tracker.
Settings > Additional Settings > Privacy > Location > ensure you are using High Accuracy for Location Mode and allowing location access.
