South Africa has found itself in the midst of widespread civil unrest. From looting, to a number of riots across the country, a myriad of violent and traumatic images have been circulated as South African’s try to navigate an already difficult time in South Africa. The Covid-19 third wave has swept through the country – An increase in national restrictions, daily increase in Covid-19 infections and the further limiting of social interactions, have caused many to feel helpless, isolated and unsure of how to cope with this ever-changing world.
The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and now the current increase in civil unrest on the Mental Health of many South Africans, cannot be underestimated. Most people, on one level or another, are struggling to cope with the issues that we are facing on a daily basis. It is important for us now more than ever, to empower ourselves and to take a proactive approach to our own Mental Health and the Mental Health of our loved ones.
