God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters. Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim. 1 Chronicles 14:11 NASB
David had been anointed king, and the Philistines were concerned. They knew he had defeated their champion, Goliath, and led Israel’s armies to other victories. They determined to search for him and silence him.
David was ready to confront these enemies. But before taking any action, he sought God’s direction. God responded, Go up, for I will hand them over to you (v. 10).
When Israel followed God’s leading, they won a great victory. David realized that this had been a breakthrough. He had broken through his enemies like water rushing through a blockage, like a bursting flood (ESV).
David was aware that they had faced a massive problem, but God delivered them. He knew that God shattered the walls that stood before him. He tore open a hole in the enemy line that led to great victory.
It was such a powerful moment that he changed the name of the place where the battle had been fought. It became Baal-perazim,the possessor of breaches. David wanted everyone to remember that God had given him this breakthrough. He could give them breakthroughs, too.
We face many types of problems. We can feel overwhelmed and outnumbered, afraid and discouraged. We can be filled with doubt and worry. Remember what David learned: God is the God of breakthroughs. He can give you victory in any situation, even when defeat seems inevitable. Believe Him for your breakthrough today
