Many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us.– Luke 1:1 NKJV

In the opening statement of his Gospel, Luke stated that his goal was to develop a narrative. The Greek word used here indicates that Luke set out to describe what had happened. He assured readers he had investigated events thoroughly and would be providing accurate details.

But this would not be a dry list of information. He was determined to tell a special story about events that had been fulfilled. These were not random points, but events filled with meaning.

Luke and other first-person witnesses had observed events they knew were true. The Greek words here describe something that was carried out, a mission that was entirely accomplished. This, Luke knew, was a story that had become complete in many ways. Jesus had fulfilled ancient prophecies and proved that God kept His promises.

This story would go on for generations in the lives of men and women, who, in their own ways, would experience the Gospel. They would be transformed by the power of the Gospel. They would experience their own level of fulfillment and be able to tell their own stories.
