If you have small children at home, you might be wondering how to teach them the true meaning of Christmas in a way they will understand. Amid all of the excitement over presents, bright Christmas decorations, and Santa Claus, how do we bring their focus back to Jesus? One way that we accomplish this with our kids is to tell them that Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. My daughter is just starting to understand what birthdays are all about. She gets so excited whenever there is a birthday party coming up, whether it is hers or someone else’s. So rather than have her get off track with the excitement of Christmas, and material things like gifts and parties, we try to redirect some of that excitement to the true purpose of Christmas. So this Christmas Eve if you have children at home remind them that Jesus’s birthday and the awesome gift of our Lord coming to save us is the real reason for our Christmas celebration
