If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. When Paul said you must die if you love after the flesh, he was not referring to being sentenced to Hell—he was talking about physical death.

Sin in the flesh wants to produce the act of sin, and that sows seeds which eventually bears the mature fruit of physical death.

Sin shortens your lifespan because it causes destruction in your physical body and in your life.

On the other hand, the Holy Spirit is the one who gives life to your mortal body, which means He can lengthen your lifespan, give you overflowing health, youth, and strength in your body.

Believers who keep allowing their fleshly impulses to control them will experience much suffering and loss.

The only way to break this vicious cycle is through the power of the Holy Spirit. He alone can help you put to death the deeds of the body.

Allow the Spirit to lead you, and in doing so, you will experience life and have it more abundantly, which is God’s perfect will for you.

This is a primary way that life and death are released in your body:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.(Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

If you allow the flesh to control you, then the words you speak will be careless and full of death. What you keep saying eventually becomes what you experience.

Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to fill your mind, heart, and mouth with God’s words that are full of spirit and life. Pray in tongues daily and often. A child of God who is well-trained knows how to skillfully wield the power of life and death through his words. Harness this power and use it in your favor in Jesus’ name
