One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us! But the other rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.- Luke 23:39 – 41
This verse tells us about the crucifixion of Jesus with the two thieves beside Him. One of them challenged the Lord to show His power by setting them free from their situation. The other thief rebuked Him emphasizing that they deserved to be punished because of their deeds, but that Jesus was innocent. This tells us that a repentant heart is a heart that is willing to accept full responsibility for their sin, including its punishment. Let us not be like the second thief who only wanted to escape punishment. Let us be like the one who accepted responsibility for His sins. So instead of blaming others or using reasoning to get out of guilt and punishment, humble yourself and admit that you are wrong, and repent
