Devotional

Elijah was one of the Bible’s most amazing characters, a man who walked in such close intimacy with God that he could demonstrate God’s power to others and experience it in his own life. He courageously did battle with the forces of those who challenged God’s authority and silenced those who questioned the power of His God.

But he was also a person like you and me, someone who sometimes struggled with his emotions, had his doubts and asked questions about his calling. In spite of all that, God used Him in powerful ways.

Psalm 62:11

One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: Power belongs to You, God.

  • Remember, God is all-powerful and sovereign over all things.
  • You can trust the Lord because He has the power to help you.
  • All the strength you need is found in Him.
  • All the power and all the love you need, is found in Him.

A Bit Brighter

This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. So he complained to the Lord about it. – Jonah  4:1-2a

We all seem to complain when things don’t go the way we want them to. It happens more often than not. Sometimes we don’t even realize we are actually doing it. Jonah had done what God had asked of him, in spite of how he felt. When the Lord did not pass judgment on the Ninevites, it struck a sour chord with Jonah. He probably wondered how this could be, these guys are horrible sinners? Why do they get a free pass, when I was swallowed by a giant fish for something far less? Many of us have probably had similar thoughts when things don’t go our way or life seems unfair. Bitterness, anger, and pride can often creep into our thoughts and cause us to act poorly. Remember God’s ways are above ours and His mercy is endless. Remember we are to forgive others as He has forgiven you and find peace in His forgiveness
